TWO-TIME DEFENDING OVC CHAMPION SKYHAWK WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM RELEASES 2021-22 SCHEDULE

MARTIN, Tenn. – The two-time defending champion of the University of Tennessee’s Ohio Valley Conference on the Martin women’s basketball team has unveiled his schedule for 2021-22.
The Skyhawks will seek to defend their league crown with a full plan of action that includes 30 regular season matchups – including participation in three non-conference tournaments. UT Martin will travel to six different states with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, competing against teams from eight conferences – including eight squads who played after the season last season.
“This schedule is extremely tough,” said Kevin McMillan, UT Martin’s head coach. “If you look at it, it’s basically the schedule we had last year, but most of them have been postponed for a year because of COVID. The difference is that we’ve gone from being an experienced team to being an extremely inexperienced team It’s going to be a really tough challenge, but that’s the kind of schedule our program is used to. It should be fun. “
UT Martin will open the season by participating in the women’s preseason National Invitation Tournament in Manhattan, Kansas. The Skyhawks will announce the season against Kansas State on November 12, before facing North Carolina A&T (November 14) and Western Kentucky (November 15).
After the opening tournament, the Skyhawks will travel to the eternal power of Louisville on November 17th. UT Martin will make his debut at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center against Illinois State on November 20th.
The Skyhawks will be spending Thanksgiving in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the San Juan Shootout. UT Martin faces George Washington (November 26) and Virginia Tech (November 27) in the tournament.
Three consecutive home games will open the month of December. The rescheduled competitions for the 2020-21 season will include matchups against Saint Louis (December 5), Missouri State (December 12) and Southern Illinois (December 15).
The final non-conference competitions will be held before Christmas at the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. UT Martin faces MAC enemies Akron (December 20th) and Bowling Green (December 21st) on consecutive days to end the non-conference roster.
The OVC schedule will include a 20-game schedule with home and home games against all league opponents. The Skyhawks will be SIUE (January 1), Belmont (January 8), Tennessee Tech (January 15), Austin Peay (January 20), Eastern Illinois (January 27), Southeast Missouri (February 3) , Tennessee State (February 5), Morehead State (February 16) and Murray State (February 19).
For the second half of the season, trips to Austin Peay (December 30th), Tennessee State (January 6th), Morehead State (January 13th), Murray State (January 22nd), Belmont (January 29th), SIUE (Feb. 10th) will be included ), Eastern Illinois (February 12), Southeast Missouri (February 24), and Tennessee Tech (February 26).
The OVC basketball championship will once again be played in Evansville, Indiana, with the top 8 seeds taking the field. The tournament runs from March 2nd to 5th.
