AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Department of Transportation held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday to celebrate the completion of the RM 2222 expansion project in northwest Austin.

The RM 2222 expansion project included the addition of an eastbound lane between the newly built RM 620 bypass and Sitio Del Rio Boulevard and a westbound lane from Ribelin Ranch Drive through River Place Boulevard.

TxDOT was accompanied by state and local officials to sever the project’s ribbon at the ceremony.

“With the addition of RM 2222, we’re already seeing an improvement in traffic flow,” said Tucker Ferguson, Austin district engineer. “The full benefits of this innovative approach to clearing traffic jams will be realized after completion of the RM 620 bypass.”

Officials said elevated centerlines with turning bays were built along RM 2222, along with special turn lanes for RM 2222 on McNeil Drive and River Place Boulevard. Sidewalks were built along the corridor on both sides of the RM 2222.
